Apalachia Lake, a remote
mountain lake is located in the Appalachian Mountains of Cherokee
County in western North Carolina. This scenic mountain lake is 9.8
miles long with 31 miles of shoreline and over 1,000 acres of water.
This lake is a year-round lake and designated as a Wilderness
Waterway. Most of Apalachia's shoreline is preserved by USFS
Nantahala National Forest, keeping it's breathtaking beauty unspoiled.
Quiet secluded coves and inlets on Apalachia Lake provide excellent
opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing or sightseeing. It is
ideal for canoes and kayaks, but can easily accommodate a sport boat
for water skiing. Game fish in Apalachia Lake include smallmouth and
largemouth bass, white bass, walleye and trout. The area's beauty
starts with the mountain laurel of spring and runs through the
brilliant colors of the fall foliage.
This area is surrounded
by numerous outdoor recreation opportunities, hiking, swimming,
boating, fishing, canoeing, whitewater rafting, antiquing, horseback
riding, golf, hunting and waterfalls nearby. Scenic outdoor

The United
States Forest Service designated
Apalachia Lake
as a wilderness lake. This designation insures Lake Apalachia will
remain much as it is forever. Our lake is also the only lake in the
region that remains full throughout the winter and is never drawn
down. Apalachia is a beautiful, 1,000 acre lake with over 70 miles of
shoreline which is eighty percent owned by the United States Forest
Service. These factors ensure that
Apalachia Lake
will remain close to pristine.
Apalachia Lake
is relatively undiscovered and boasts some of the most impressive
scenery in the eastern United States. Giant trees, large waterfalls
and abundant wildlife surround
Apalachia Lake
with mountains stretching to the horizon in every direction.
Lake Apalachia sits at the base of the Hiawassee Dam built by the TVA
(Tennessee Valley Authority). Named a National Historic Mechanical
Engineering Landmark and the largest of its kind in the world, this
engineering marvel stands 307 ft. tall. The public access to
Apalachia Lake
located at the base of the dam is 10 miles from the estates making it
secluded and quiet. Absolutely serene. Much of the quiet can be
attributed to the fact that there are not any campgrounds on the lake.
Apalachia Lake’s
stable waterline (unlike all the others in the area) makes for great
casting under trees and brush, or trolling along the steep banks for
rainbow and brown trout, bream, largemouth and smallmouth bass, and
pike.
The regional climate is temperate with cool summers, brisk springs and
falls and moderate winters. In the summer temps range from 70s-80s
during the day to 60s and 50s at night. In winter the temperatures can
drop to the 20 at night, but usually remain around the 40s and 50s
during the day. There are few days when you can’t work outside in the
winter.
The area is nearly crime free. You can take walks at night without
worry. Children can play outside without fear. Enjoy the layd back
lifestyle within driving range of excellent shopping. Atlanta, 2 hrs.
Chattanooga, one and a half hrs. Murphy, 30 min.
