There were 198,356 crimes reported in Alabama in 1993, a 2% decrease from 1992. The crime
rate for the state was 4737.4 per 100,000 inhabitants compared to 5482.9 per 100,000
nationally. Blount County reported 490 criminal acts; only 82 of which were violent
crimes. Neighboring Jefferson County reported 6619. *
Deputies as well as state troopers
patrol the county. Oneonta, Blountsville, Cleveland, Susan Moore, and Snead have separate
police departments.
