Brasstown Bald
Brasstown Bald view - Towns / Union County GA

Take GA75 south toward Helen from Hiawassee. Turn right on GA180 (look for signs) Go approximately 5 miles. Entrance is on right. Georgia's highest mountain rises 4,784 feet above sea level. On a clear day you may see four states. The Visitor's Information Center, located at the summit of the Bald, houses an exhibit hall with interesting displays and a slide show of the seasons in the mountains. A very steep, paved one-half mile trail leads to the Visitor's Center. The Center is open daily from Memorial Day through October and on weekends in early spring (depending on the weather.)

Facilities include picnic tables, concession building, craft shop, restrooms, four hiking trails (ranging from five to six miles in length), the Brasstown Wilderness which offers a wide diversity of flora and fauna, and plenty of parking. "The Bald" is operated by the National Forest Service. For information, call the Brasstown Bald Information Center at (706) 896-2556 or the Heritage Association Bookstore at (706) 896-3471.
